Well, the Chemnutra sentencing is announced.
Chemnutra was the company who imported the tainted gluten which contaminated many brands of pet food and killed tens of thousands of dogs and cats.
A fine of thirty thousand dollars, paid by insurance, and no jail time.
I feel livid about it.
On the flip:
According to a commenter on my blog:
The Millers pay 5 grand each, the Chemnutra company pays 25 grand, insurance covered, for a total of 35 thousand dollars.
Paid to the court.
No jail.
The wholesale slaughter of pets is a profitable business. And entirely legal.
A last minute switcheroony of the judge means that none of the letters or emails that so many pet owners cried while writing ever mattered and may not have even been read.
The Millers will be having champagne, flavored with the tears of grieving pet owners , in their luxury home in Las Vegas tonight.
It's a twisted sense of justice we have in this country. If I murder somebody, I'd get at least ten years. But if I murdered a lot of people, just as a business matter; what?
It's just not right.
