This weekend in Lancaster, state committee members came out from 66 of 67 counties to cast their endorsement vote for US Senate and Gubernatorial candidates despite a major snow storm that has shut down much of the state.
Friday evening included a Roast and Toast honoring Governor Rendell for his eight years of service with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Senators Casey and Specter, as well as Congressman Brady and AFL-CIO leader Bill George were on the stage to Roast the Governor in front of a large crowd. Everything was good from the ham to the cold Yuengling overflowing the glass.
I had a few of those in anticipation of the big endorsement the next day, but before that there was an interesting development when Rep. Sestak tried to rush the stage and speak at the Roast and Toast of the Governor at the end of the event. It was somewhat of an awkward moment for him as the Dem. Party plans these events for weeks if not months.

The next day, it was enthusiatically announced that there were enough votes for a quorum, and endorsements would be taking place for both the senate and governor's races. A candidate needed to get 66 percent of the vote for an endorsement and as the counties wound down, Specter had decisive victories in larger counties such as Allegheny, Philadelphia, Bucks, Westmoreland, and Lehigh. Specter ended up with 227 votes, an overwhelming 75 percent of the votes and gained the endorsement to chants of "Arlen, Arlen." Rep. Sestak only ended up with 72 votes.
