Oliver North on Hannity regarding Obama and the Gays in the military issue:
Stunning assault on the all-volunteer military, the very best in the world. Barack Obama now intents to treat them like lab rats in a radical social experiment, and it can be very, very detrimental. ... In other words, this isn’t about rights. This isn’t about fairness. It’s all about national security. And apparently, Mr. Obama has forgotten it. ... Now, here’s what’s next. NAMBLA [North American Man/Boy Love Association] members, same-sex marriages. Are chaplains in the U.S. military going to be required to perform those kinds of rituals? Do they get government housing?
The great thing about this issue coming to the fore is how it exposes people like this. Sure, few of us had very high opinions of Oliver North anyway but rhetoric like this just solidifies our initial hunch about him.
It's hilarious how the right is trying to reframe this issue. Duncan Hunter on CNN offered the following rebuttle to this issue:
"I think that its bad for the cohesiveness and the unity of the military units, especially those that are in close combat, that are in close quarters in country right now. Its not the time to do it. I think its – the military is not civilian life. And I think the folks who have been in the military that have been in these very close situations with each other, there has to be a special bond there. And I think that bond is broken if you open up the military to transgenders, to hermaphrodites, to gays and lesbians."
Keep this issue in the news as long as we can. It will force every prejudice politician on the right to explain themselves. In the past they could get away with the lies. Today, with most of the American public agreeing that gay lifestyles and choices are nothing to take issue at, their words reveal their true selves.
And what it's revealing is gruesome.
