How is this news? We keep gnashing our teeth over this on Dailykos but it means nothing. We can't control what those people do. Bill O'Reilly stinks. Limbaugh says offensive things. Republicans are trying to block what we do! Anne Coulter irked me! Why does Fox news act like this??????
Until the democratic financial leaders actually put their money where their mouth is and start buying radio stations and tv channels, there is really nothing we can do about the slime that dominates the airwaves.
I hate to say it, but this reminds me of Cubs fans. Rather than actually vent towards the object that we have some control over(how ownership acts, etc), we tend to focus externally on things we can't control like the Cardinals or other teams in the league. Cubs fans start to despise the other teams players rather than looking inward and figuring out why their team can't get it done. We make excuses for the Cubs.. "oh, this year there were too many injuries" and so forth.
Right now, the problem is not the Republicans(as much as that makes me want to vomit). The problem is ourselves. We have a huge majority in congress and we can't get anything done. This the weakest leadership I've ever seen for the democratic party, hands down. Tom Daschle had more leadership in his left foot than Reid has period. Yes, I'm yearning for the leadership of Tom Daschle! And lets be perfectly honest, folks; Obama is giving voice/power to Republicans during a time when they don't have one by reaching out to them.
They don't want to work with Obama, they will never want to work with Obama. Reaching out to them in these headline moves gives them power and a larger voice than they have. It makes the president look weak, like the sort of popular kid who desperately needed to be liked by everyone.
What we need to do is to start holding our own guys feet to the fire. How can there possibly be a "freeze" on legislation when we have such a majority? Bush got his way with 51 senators. Think about that.... It comes down to fortitude and effeciency. It comes down to staying on message.
We are the Cubs, and right now we've got a ten point lead in game six of the world series, yet our hitters are refusing to go up to bat. That's not the other teams fault. Something is fundamentally broken from within our ballclub. We need to find that and fix it.
O'Reilly will say something mean tomorrow. Beck will say something kooky. Republicans in congress will stay on message and try to block our agenda.
So what. None of it matters if we refuse to go to the plate.
