For all the lovers, and dreamers of love, here is a sweet treat.
Evidently there is a secret to the success of a marriage, so says Vice President Biden and second lady, Dr. Jill Biden.
And that secret is...
More below the fold.
Putting their [35 year] marriage ahead of their careers.
That simple for those of you in lover's lane.
Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden did an interview about their success at marriage in honor of valentine's day.
An excerpt from the article.
When they had their first date in 1975, Joe Biden, who lost his first wife in a car accident, said he instantly fell for Jill: "I wanted to marry her," he explained. "I didn't know she wanted to marry me."
And although she was hesitant at first, the second lady says she "fell in love" with Biden's sons. "I mean, it was obvious and they were just so easy to love."
Now, decades after they married, Joe Biden said, the family has a deal: "We can never go to bed angry, because in my life experience you don't want to be. You don't want to leave one another."
"I will not leave the house, I swear to God, until she kisses me and gives me a hug when we've had a fight because you never know what's going to happen," the vice president continued. "I know in my own life experience, I think to myself, 'What would have happened in my previous circumstance had I had a big fight and then something happened?'"
When he was a senator, Joe Biden commuted between Wilmington, Del., and Washington and would frequently miss dinner with his wife. Now that he is vice president, "almost every night we get to have dinner together."
And they see each other sometimes during the day, too.
Since Jill Biden has an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, her husband frequently drops by.
"I drive her nuts because she needs some space," the vice president confessed.
"And my staff says, 'He's coming over again,'" Jill Biden added.
The second couple will be in Vancouver for Valentine's Day this year because the vice president is part of an Olympic delegation.
Last year, Jill Biden gave her husband a decorative surprise in his West Wing office.
"There's these big windows that are probably 10, 12 feet high, and [on] almost every pane of glass, Jill had lipstick," he said.
When Jill Biden informed him that it was poster paint, not lipstick, Biden responded, "Is that what it was? It looked like you usually do on my mirror — lipstick. That's why I thought that was lipstick."
On the windows, the second lady wrote, "Jill loves Joe" and all these hearts and valentines," Biden said, adding, "It pleased me, but it didn't surprise me."
Our Vice President and second lady are such a romantics (sigh). They ooze love. We have some great examples of strong marriages in the two highest offices in the land. This should not be dismissed.
We are a country that is used to seeing, for the most part, rehearsed and unaffectionate first and second couples. Moreover, we are a country with a divorce rate of over 50%. To see a President take the time out for date night, or see photos of him constantly kissing on his wife are very powerful images for married couples.

I will never forget this photo. I remember seeing it two years ago. This was right after Biden dropped his presidential bid. The look is all over Jill's face as Biden comforts her. Little did she know what the future had in store for her. :D
