although probably he shouldn't be. I mean, why did I expect that the Democrats in Congress would grow a pair just because the voters overwhelmingly approved of a progressive agenda?
I'm no Republican, never have voted for an R in my life. Always D or I or Green, and money and time spent on candidates FROM OTHER STATES EVEN!!
But just imagine for a moment if the Federal Gov't didn't have access to 3 trillion dollars to spend in a year....if the stakes weren't so high....the Senate would DEFINITELY be a less stinky place if there weren't so much on the table.
And I wouldn't give a whit, and would have no reason to care WHO the hell was Senator from Alabama or WHO was the chairperson of the House Corn and Beans committee. It just wouldn't matter all that much IF the Fed Gov't wasn't so freaking bloated and sweaty.
Just imagine if the US Gov't went about its business managing currency and Borders and Weights and Measures and Interstate roads and and and the Library of Congress and what else?
What if we really did have a Federal society where States, communities, and neighborhoods HAD TO be involved and HAD TO determine their own direction and fate?
Why are we so accustomed to the fact that Nine Robed Eggheads on the Bench can determine how our schools are run, how our neighborhoods develop, how our elections are run, who can marry who?
I thought this was a freaking free country? I thought this was a Grand Experiment in Freedom and Liberty? I thought the Free Market of Ideas was supposed to determine the direction that our culture and society took....
Why do people in Congress think they have some right to "protect traditional marriage?" Isn't the whole point of Freedom and Liberty is to SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY WANT?
Instead we have 100 folks bashing each other on TV and blowing each other in the cloakroom in the most un-democratic institution that could have come out of the Constitution. Where else would the 40 Senators representing about 1/5 of the nation's populace hold up all the work just because it makes them feel good about the fact that they've had their butts kicked in the polls for the last four years?
And the other 60, representing the other 4/5 of the people, are too scared to even make the 40 follow through on a threat to....oh my God, cover your ears....FILIBUSTER.
For the love of all that is good and holy in the world, Harry Reid you lame-o. Make them get up and talk if that's their weapon.
But I digress. The point is it shouldn't matter. The Senate isn't supposed to be this powerful. The Federal Gov't is not supposed to be involved in things this much.
Rant not over, not by any stretch, but the kids need feeding. God help this country in the hands of the 544.
