His last column (Feb 11) and this morning's comments on Meet the Press reconfirm for the millionth time how shallow and full of warmish air he is.
The argument that the "Voters are in no mood for a wave of domestic transformation" is, of course, confirmed, in his mind, by the fact that no transformative legislation has passed. The logic of this analysis appeals to the same minds that are mesmerized by the deep intuition of the equation 'snow in Washington = no global warming."
Now, to challenge David's brilliant intuition just a bit, the House has actually passed thousands of pages of transformative legislation. And if beating back filibustering required just 55 instead of 60 votes, that legislation would be now the law of a very deeply transformed country, thank you very much.
To interpret the paralysis in terms of resistance to change is an indication of how dull Brooks' brain is. All he sees is the surface of the Washington pond and believes he is actually contemplating the depth of the ocean. Now, if he were smarter and actually concocted this argument for right wing propaganda purposes, he should be fired from the Times for professional malpractice. He is entitled to his opinion, but he should not be allowed to disseminate false information.
