Hello our elected leaders. As you are aware, there are a lot of us in the netroots and the whole nation that are growing tired of what seems to be the "do nothing" attitude in Ccngress. Put yourselves in our shoes for a bit. We elected a Democratic President and Congress on the premise of hope and change. We had high hopes, and in hindsight we may have set our expectations a little too high. People may want to debate this, but we were promised health care reform, which as you know, is not going anywhere. Sure there are stories every now and then that seem to point towards that happening, but we expect results a lot faster than we are getting them. Once again, that may be our high expectations getting the best of us.
The House has done for the American people what we wanted them to, albeit by a tight squeeze. We got our public option. And again, we thank all of our members of the House for this huge achievement.
Unfortunately, once the bill made it to the House of Lords, well, we know where the story goes. In my opinion, the Senate doesn't really get it. Correct me if i'm wrong, but most members of the Senate were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, or have "sucked the government teet" their whole life. They, and their families, are covered, so they're happy. They don't understand the real problems that are facing us real Americans (and not just Sarah Palin's version of real Americans, though they are just as real as us east coasters).
You've never had to stand in an unemployment line. You've never sat and stared at a stack of bills wondering whether to pay your mortgage, or pay for the medication your truly need. You've never had kids crying at night because they don't get the food they need. You have never gone to an emergency room for stomach pains only to find out later that your bill is $2,500. You've never had these problems, because you've been "fat and happy". You were born into the higher class.
For you members of the Senate and House who think this health care bill does too much, you really have no clue. And all you're doing is making us, the American people, pay. But you too will pay. If healthcare reform doesn't pass, you're hurting yourselves. We will vote you out. But that probably doesn't matter, because you'll still have your government run health care plan and pension.
But you can no longer count on us to go to the polls and vote for you based on the sole fact that you're a Democrat. No, we will primary you. We will put a progressive up against you and throw everything we have at it, because we have nothing to lose anymore. We were promised so much, and it seems like we're going to be delivered so little. To those of you who voted for the public option, you have our support. You will have all of our strength in fundraising and volunteering. We will fight tooth and nail to make sure our progressives, the ones who are truly looking out for us, remain there to keep our best interests in mind. But to the Ben Nelsons out there, your days are numbered.
