We don't know how many people have died because they have listened to the very unscientific medical advice that Andreas Moritz has offered. Mr. Moritz has no medical training at all, but his website offers a lot of nonsense. Interestingly, he tries his best not to actually get caught practicing medicine illegally. His disclaimer pretty much admits that nothing on the entire site is reliable and his contact page says that he cannot answer health-related questions even though his entire website purports to be about better health.
Every once in a while, someone who cares about science, catches his act and criticizes is. Recently, he hit back by scaring Wordpress into dropping a blog called For the Sake of Science (may not work if Wordpress is still shaking in its boots). Luckily, Michael Hawkins has another blog and some of the Scienceblogs folks (Pharyngula, Respectful Insolence) who have tangled with Moritz before are speaking up, both to Moritz whose deadly recommendations include blaming the victim for cancer and to Wordpress for being silly.
Wordpress has been a good place for bloggers, but we must encourage them to stand up against foolish threats that are completely without foundation. We cannot let fraudsters, scamster, denialists, birthers, and truthers start to set the agenda of what is written in a blog.
