At a local meeting I heard some news about recent DNC changes in the Presidential primary process. I would like to hear from others who can corrorborate or correct what I heard, and any discussion would be welcome.
At the meeting, what we heard was that there would be 100 fewer superdelegates in the next Presidential primary. Also, elected officials, such as governors, House and Senate members, would have only 1/2 vote rather than a full vote as superdelegates. There has been no decision yet concerning states who decide to move up their primaries. At first they thought about giving more delegates to states who don't move up their primaries, but that wasn't practical in terms of convention space. I personally don't like the 1/2 vote rule, as I think people who achieved enough to become elected deserve to have a full vote. But I don't know how many elected officials get superdelegate status at this point. It would be weird if someone like the mayor of Philadelphia had only a half a vote.
