Not one single state is meeting the national objective for consumption of fruits and vegetables. That objective is only two fruit and three vegetable servings per day. The Harvard School of Public Health suggests we should consume at least nine servings of fruit and vegetables per day.
How are you doing on your fruit and vegetable consumption?

The Healthy People 2010 objectives aim for at least 75 percent of Americans to eat the recommended two or more daily servings of fruit, and for at least 50 percent of Americans to eat the recommended three or more servings of vegetables daily. However, CDC surveys indicate that only 33 percent of adults meet the recommendation for fruit consumption and 27 percent get the recommended servings of vegetables. The statistics are even worse for high school students – 32 percent report eating at least two servings of fruit daily and 13 percent say they eat at least three servings of vegetables each day.

A quick and easy way to start a journey to a healthier you is to eat nine or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day. A stomach full of produce is far better than one full of junk food. I find it easy to grab an apple or a banana and add it to my lunch. I also like to throw in an avocado everyday. Please share any tips or recipes you have that will help me (and many others like me according to the maps) increase our veggie/fruit intake.
