I cannot believe my ears. The junior senator from Kentucky just read a constituent's letter on the floor of the Senate advocating the "long overdue revolution" in this country. Does the senator know the meaning of these words? Is he advocating the violent overthrow of our government on the floor of the Senate? Is this where we have devolved in our country's political life? I hardly know what to say.
For the record:
revolution noun (POLITICS)
/ˌrev.əˈluː.ʃən/ n
[C or U] a change in the way a country is governed, usually to a different political system and often using violence or war
The French Revolution changed France from a monarchy to a republic.
The country seems to be heading towards revolution.
From time to time I have advocated the dissolution of the US Senate by constitutional means. I know how frustrating it can be to care about the governing of this country no matter one's politics. I also know the difference between constitutional change and violent revolution for goodness sake. Apparently those of Sen. Bunning's mentality see no distinction between governing and violent revolution.
Did Sen. Bunning commit a crime by reading a letter on the floor of the Senate advocating the violent overthrow of the US government? How can this not be treason? Being outrageous to garner attention is one thing but I think this particular outrage needs to be investigated as a possible crime against the state. Forget the politics; this is a question of the greater good of the country. If ever words demand the removal of a US Senator from office surely these are they.
We need to let the world know that we do not advocate the violent overthrow of our own government and do not tolerate reckless leaders promoting such violent solutions to political problems.
Sen. Bunning must pay for his reckless behavior.
