Barack Obama warned House progressives today that 31 million people and his presidency will lose if health care reform fails. If the comments in a certain recommended diary are any indication, alot of people in this community were insulted by Obama imploring progressives to vote for health care reform, that progressives should reject the bill.
The bill isn't about you. It's about the 31 million people who would have the basic human dignity of receiving health care when they need it. Not only would they get insurance, but even a choice of insurance through the exchanges. If one company gave them lousy service, they could switch to another without fear of losing their coverage.
Small businesses could afford to cover their employees at reasonable rates. The rates for my business went up 68% this year without even anyone getting sick! The company treats me like crap and can get away with it because they are the only one who will cover my company. I can only imagine what would happen if one of my employees actually got sick.
No more exclusions.
No more dropping coverage.
No more staying at a lousy job because of the health insurance.
No more prohibitive rate hikes.
More choices.
More control.
More community health centers.
Alot of people are upset about what the health care reform isn't. As a business owner, I'd love single payer myself. Don't let the disappointment of what the bill isn't cloud the immense good it will do, providing dignity for the uninsured and security for those of us who are one illness away from losing it. We can improve on the bill every year, but tens of millions desperately need help now.
Please don't forget those of us for whom the bill was written and whose cause Democrats have championed since Harry Truman. Pass The Damn Bill. Thank you.
