Here we go again, another one of these photo diary things. I hope you enjoy your visit under the waves on the westside of Oahu, however I am going to start with something old and different...
Cozumel Sunset
This shot was taken about eighteen years ago on Fuji Velvia slide film.
These rest of these shots were taken Saturday at Kahe Point (aka Electric Beach) on Oahu.
Bluestrip Snappers in Cave
Bluestrip Snappers
These are alien species that were imported from the Marquesas Islands as food fish but they never really caught on with the locals. It is debated on just how much they are displacing endemic fish species.
Oval Chromis
Like most damselfish they are tough buggers. This one got right in my face.
Bigeye
This fish turned from deep red to silvery right before I shot this photo.
Pacific Trumpetfish
It is hanging there allowing itself to be cleaned by the Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse (the small blue and yellow fish)
Trumpetfish Eye
A little closeup action
Milletseed Butterflyfish and Hawaiian Sargents
Green Sea Turtle
I distrubed this honu from his resting place in the cave.
Honu
You can tell it is a male by the long tail. Females have short tails that barely go past the end of the shell.
Green Turtle
Racoon Butterflyfish
Blacklip Butterflyfish
Milletseed Butterflyfish
Divided or Tiger Flatworm
Like many small brightly colored creatures (think tree frogs) they are highly toxic.
Belted Wrasse
Commerson's Frogfish
I don't know how my dive buddy managed to even see this fish.
Here I have outlined the animal and marked the location of its eye. Frogfish are ambush hunters that wait motionless on the reef.
Thanks for visiting this diary and thanks for the nomination and votes for the KOscars! To mix competition metaphors, I got the bronze! As always feel free to use this as a community photo diary and please be good humans!
