We've had a great week in the insurgency of Bill Halter in Arkansas. Tons of money has been raised. How sweet it is!!!
But let's make sure we are covering other races where we can elect Better Democrats.
If the DNC and the DCCC is not going to take on a 50 State strategy then it's our responsibility. Just because we don't have Howard Dean doesn't mean that we can't make a difference..
Over at the Progressive Electorate we've listed a number of candidates on our Act Blue page who need our assistance. Take a look at some of these folks where we can make a significant difference. Races where 50 $10 contributions can buy a ton of signs, races where 100 $25 contributions can get some polling, races where 1000 $5 contributions can buy significant media time.
- I've been helping my friend Shelia Smoot in her race for the Alabama 7th Congressional District Race. This race is important because it's the only guaranteed Democratic seat in the state. Since 2002 we've had Congressman Artur Davis (now running for Governor) who has been a disappointment to many for his votes for the Bankruptcy Prevention and Abuse Act and against both Hate Crimes and the Health Care Bill. This year we have a chance to have a more progressive member of Congress. Shelia is a fighter for her people and someone that I know will have our ear.
The candidate leading fundraising is a corporate lawyer who formerly worked on Wall Street by the name of Terri Sewell. We don't need another person in this seat who will vote with the Republicans. This is a poor District where folks need infrastructure. My friend Shelia Smoot has built schools and fire stations and public housing as a public official.
We hope you help us in our race.
Here's a video of Shelia speaking at an event last year
- We are also supporting Jennifer Brunner in Ohio Senate race. I know very little about this race, but my friends tell me that Brunner is the most progressive in this race. Help her if you can.
- We are supporting Grier Raggio in Texas-32 who is taking on Pete Sessions in TX-32. That's a race where we can make a difference. Texas and Alabama are going to get ignored by the national pundits, but we've got to do what we can to make a difference.
I'll stick around if you have any questions about Shelia or any of these other candidates. Feel friend to jump in and offer us some insight.
