As some of my fellow kossies know, I have been living in the City of Baltimore for a few years now and have been having a few adventures (misadventures) with city government. Follow me below the crack please and read my tale.
So the latest saga in breathing new life into my worn but worth it neighborhood began last fall. I decided that the tree on the next block needed to go as it was pushing up the sidewalk into the shape of a tent and the little kids would sometimes hit it with their Big Wheels and go flying. One day one of them was going to get hurt. So after many delays and obstacles, the tree came down... Hooray.
But then the Blizzards of late '09 and '10 hit the East Coast and life as we knew it ceased to exist... for awhile anyway. The week after the two big storms hit I saw three robins in my yard so I knew that all was not lost. Fast forward to today.
Today while I was at work the crews finally showed up and startng taking up the old sidewalk and laying down the new. Except for one little oopsie. The massive stump and sprawling roots that my official neighborhood contact told me HAD to come out and that is why they had to takedown the tree (I knew that already but I still had to make sure that the tree was a goner if we proceeded); yeah, the massive stump is stil there!!
They have shaved down some of the roots and poured out some dirt, but basically what is going to happen is they are going to pour concrete and still leave a small hump and the new sidewalk is going to have a dogleg in it as they work aroung the ground level roots.
Who does that? Really, who does that? I am so angry now I could spit.
This level of sloppy incompetence is what they want us to swallow and say "Please sir, may I have some more?" NO! NO! NO!
If anyone has the time tonight to email the city for me and help me end this bs I would sure appreciate it. I wish that I had arrived home tonight before dark so I could post some pictures of the craziness but it wasn't possible tonight. I have added a link to their contacts page for DPW and the Mayors office. I am realy hoping that you will help tonight. I don't have much time and I have to conduct a training session tomorrow for 17 people or else I would take some personal time and make calls in the morning. I know this isn't world peace or anything but as a public works employee (another jurisdiction, not the CIty), I am embarrassed by the sloppiness of this job. The job is in 21225, on the edge of Anne Arundel County.
