I see a wholelotta back and forth on the rec list...
Support the Bill, whiners!
This Bill sux! Don't tell me what to do!
Now, I don't love this Bill, I think Single payer is the way to go. However, but, and also...
I see it as a step, and one that takes us forward. I am curious what the fallout would be if the President and this Congress don't get this thing passed...
I personally believe that if this thing fails, the Obama Administration is going to be labeled a failure, from all sides. The media will bleat on endlessly, and with much glee about how Obama doesn't have any leadership skills, how this center-right country doesn't want ANY health care reform.
I think it will send the Republican's their hissyfits and tantum throwing needs only to continue for the remainder of Obama's tenure in order to win big the next Presidential cycle.
I see much ado made about the fact that Obama was torpedoed from the LEFT, even though every R voted against it.
What I don't understand is what is going to be gained from NOT supporting this bill...
This is not a diary about kicking hippies, since I consider myself to be one. Nor am I accusing others of holding out for their "ponies".
I would really like to understand what, exactly, will be gained from NOT supporting a bill that, while far from anything I would have written, does get 30 million people insurance. It REFRAMES the way people think about healthcare.
What is, realistically, the answer, if this bill fails to pass?
I just don't see the upside of it.
