I shop weekly for my family at various stores, from Costco, to Trader Joe's, and in these hard times I have been frequenting a local grocery outlet store. Today I noticed something that really pissed me off.
First stop, Costco. No overhead/background music. Which is rather refreshing to be honest. I'm not an expert on the psychology behind music and shopping, but my suspicion is that Costco wants you in and out of there quickly, no frills, no fuss. It also eliminates the capability of getting on the horn and calling someone for help, but I digress.
Second stop, Trader Joe's. Local light pop/rock station. Inoffensive and uninspiring. It was tuned to a barely audible level, or perhaps my hearing is starting to go. At any rate, it doesn't bother me and I even sometimes find myself humming along if it's a song I like.
Last stop, the grocery outlet. For the second friggin' week in a row, they've got their music set to a christian pop/rock station. And it pisses me off. I don't impose my religious beliefs, or lack thereof, on anyone else, and I expect the same respect in return. I spoke to the manager about it and he said that he has no control over what station is playing. I let it go at that until I got home and called their corporate headquarters. The lying liar manager lied to me. They are supposed to be playing a corporate feed that has pop music interspersed with store ads.
Now I don't know if I'm more angry about the music or the fact that the prick lied to me.
I keep remembering Hank Hill admonishing Bobby that Christian rock doesn't make Christianity any better, it just makes rock and roll worse.
