We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations at made at topcomments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But hopefully they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.
I work 12 hour night shifts 3 days a week. I work from 6pm-6am. The rest of the world seems to work day shift. The 4 days a week that I am not working I try to get on a regular schedule. Last night I tried to get on a regular schedule. I ended up waking up at midnight and couldn't really go back to sleep. At 3am I was wide awake, never an encouraging sign. I had plans to clean the house and get dinners prepped for the weekend. 6am rolled around after I watched a documentary on Alex Jones. I totally get why his ilk are not allowed here. I started scrubbing the kitchen. Can I just say BLECH!!!!!!!! I was out of commission last weekend, so I couldn't clean. I felt so far behind. I hate feeling overwhelmed by cleaning and prepping for the weekend. I was finished cleaning by 12 today. I still have laundry and meal prep for the weekend, but not sleeping started to kick my butt.
I collapsed around 3pm. I couldn't move, my head was throbbing, I couldn't bring myself to do laundry. Against my will my eyes closed, I slept until 5:30. I was once again behind. I had to finish this diary, shower, go to Costco, walk my dogs, do laundry and make dinner. I threw my hands up, and decided that most of that list could be pushed back until tomorrow. I felt so disappointed that I couldn't do everything. I guess I can get over it. Do you forgive me?
Now onto top comments with thanks to my wonderful friend brillig
From ScottyUrb:
While shpilk is optimistic about Paul Hodes's chances in the New Hampshire Senate race, Trix has a snarkishly good word of warning involving Rasmussen!
From trashablanca:
renzo capetti has been gracing our little blog for a while, and I just adore his temperament, writing style and his sense of humor. Were I not so adorable old, I'd feel quite threatened by his talent and charm! Here's a comment from near the end of a long thread from last night's Top Comments as my exhibit A to showcase this fine addition to the great naranja satan.
From Pam from Calif:
AllisonInSeattle had a wonderful comment regarding caring for her mother and solid advice to help seniors.
From JanF:
In Thursday’s Morning Feature kicking off the series on "free markets", there were a lot of excellent comments on this hot topic. These comments by jobu on Free Markets and Regulation, DBunn’s light bulb moment further downthread, and Orinoco’s comment on the limits of information deserve special notice.
From smileycreek:
The Raven brought back fond high school memories in explaining why attending one's high school prom stifles teen spirit.
From RLMiller:
can't just send you one top comment because everything in the diary and comments is snarky fun! (against Republicans) (Comment formatter brillig's note: in the interest of keeping w format guidelines, I choose this one by lineatus. :-))
From MKSinSA:
Perhaps the best forensic examination of the Tea Party "movement" was proffered by wonderful world in the diary entitled Welcome to the wonderful world of the Tea Party, while responding to the rather grammatically awkward comment that begins with "I think your the one in wonderland."
