In many communities where the school budget is voted on many districts are in danger of those budgets not being passed. Host George Cook discusses why it’s important that we and especially parents support those budgets and sacrifice now so that our children have a future later.
First let me give full disclosure here. I am a board of education member in my town and I am running unopposed for my seat this year. Education is very important to me
In many communities where the school budget is voted on many districts are in danger of those budgets not being passed. I believe that it’s important that we and especially parents support those budgets and sacrifice now so that our children have a future later.
( Listen to my thoughts on that here: LTH WEEKLY )
Right now many school districts are the easy target for those looking for someone or something to blame for the increase in local property taxes. While not completely innocent school districts do have cost of their control especially when it comes to healthcare cost. That is something you very rarely hear critics admit. There are also the costs of running buildings ( schools ) that include utilities and regular building maintenence. In many cases these buildings are older and require more care which equals more money.
Like everything else in the United states you get what you pay for. If we want better education and a better future for our children we have to be willing to pay for it. Not just that we have to go out and vote in schoool board elections. In many communities non parents outnumber the parents that vote. Many of those who are not parents are there to make sure that the budget does not pass.
We have to make a choice do we want to have short term tax relief for us or a real future for our children. If you believe in our children then please support your local school budgets.
