Please help spread this far and wide!

We need to be counted as a community, like most of the other important segments of our population are counted every 10 years in this nation. 2010 Census forms are on their way to you in the mail right now and will arrive in early april! So Rise-Up!

From Credo and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force-

You're in the right place—you can get your very own FREE Queer the Census sticker right here. CREDO Action is partnering with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force to make sure the census counts everyone. Order your sticker now and use it to seal the back of your census envelope when it arrives in the mail.

That's right, the sticker and even mailing is free! Follow the link and send for yours today!

The purpose of the "Queer the Census" campaign is to make the Census Bureau aware of the existence of GLBT people while protesting the fact that there are no questions on the 2010 census form dealing with sexual orientation or gender identity.

According to their "Queer the Census" Web site:

"It's crazy — the U.S. Census Bureau wants an accurate count of everyone in the country — but there's no question in the survey that asks if you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

You read that right: LGBT people are basically invisible in the survey that is supposed to reflect the diversity of America's population — and that's a big problem."

Because census data is used to plan various programs and services that address the needs of U.S. citizens, the exclusion of LGBT data can lead to the invisibility of these populations when planning for services and resources.

RISE-UP and be counted!!!

See you on friday at our usual time, 11:30 AM Eastern. Thanks for reading.

-update-

STRAIGHT ALLIES - there's a checkbox for US, too! Yep! Right on the sticker there's a checkbox for "A Straight Ally", so we're not left out of this effort.

All of us straight folks who stand with our GLBT brothers and sisters can get a sticker to seal our census forms and SHOW OUR SUPPORT for the community.  Don't go missing out on your chance to get this thing because you think that it is only for GLBT people.

WE are "GLBT people" too!  We're just a little "different".  :0)  But we're NOT left out of this.  We have our own checkbox on the sticker, so get yer straight selves to the website by clicking here and add your voice to this effort.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
