not the other way around.
I have struggled and researched, read and re-read, everything I could on What has gone wrong in our economy. There are absolutely brilliant people who have written and written on the ills of our financial sector, on trading houses and Wall Street.
There is a disconnect between what I lived as an executive and what I read, and I have NOT still been able to bridge that gap. (I miss reading Bonndad, he explained all of this in the child like terms I need to fully understand)
But There is Still this gap, perhaps I will go ask my neighbor former senior counsel for the SEC.
2 Things to remember, I am all executive level from the year 2000, prior to that I ran mega billion dollar programs but was not privy to corporate level information, and I am very sick, now disabled.
Please Read the Whole diary, do not skim or you will not understand what I am asking.
I have personally watched CEO's twist in pain over SEC reporting, knowing full well that the very existence of their job depended on the 10Q report proving profits, and if it did not prove a profit, the could, would and have been fired.
I watched as the global economy demanded off shoring of jobs, based on burdened labor rates. Questioned my CEO and others as to the impact this would have on America. This did not endear me to anyone by the way. Remember at that level profit and loss (the P/L) dominates everyone's world.
I participated in meetings that I am sure we changed the way the average American amassed their wealth, or lack was unable to amass wealth, dependent on yru Socio - Economic Status. Had fantastic arguments on the benefits / draw backs of welfare, socialized medicine, socialized banking, socialized countries, versus free market countries.
I have been one of the teams that make the reports to the C Level Executives. (How they distinguish themselves from the rest of us peon executives)
But still there is a HUGE piece of this puzzle missing, the one that was revealed to Obama that made him keep the war going. The One Joe refers to when he was pontificating on whether or not the war could end, during the debates.
A leader is only as good as the information provided him/her needed to make the decision in front of them. and every decision made by the CEO of a Fortune 500 Corporation impacts the regular working "Joe"
And it seems to me there is something missing, something all these agencies and all these politicians are not telling us? some Big tin hatty kind of secret? Hell most of them probably do not know.
And for all my research, because this feeling of a missing link has haunted me since my indoctrination into the executive world, I have found only one common thread.
Litigation, Lawyers,
either the fear of being sued, or the actual lawsuit, and the changes implemented to avoid another such lawsuit.
My CFO once said to me, one thing to remember is we were all suing each other everyday over something, and had been since the Lawyer explosion the 80's.
Now I am not bashing lawyers, we have a few in the family, (crossing self, and throwing holy water) but the drive to get paid, to litigate to get paid, could that be what drove this fiasco?
Think about it, even the last big bo ha ha, int he Supreme Court was driven b Lawyers. Corporations as entities who donate to Politicians.
Who EVER heard of such a thing???
Lighten up ya'all this is America, We will not only survive all of this, we will thrive
