Happy first day of spring! I had planned to write a diary about how the budget cuts really seem to have education budgets at a tipping point. Many states are planning to cut public school teachers and colleges and universities are starting to freeze some positions. This could be a scary year to be an educator...
BUT IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL OUTSIDE TODAY!!! And, so I am going to have this diary be something different...
Let's talk about how this change of season changes our students... and how it changes us as teachers.
I teach 6th graders math-- 12 year olds really do get positively "twitter-paited" in the spring. The hormones start kicking in, and students who were little boys and little girls at the beginning of the school year really start to metamorphosis into young men and women. Pretty fascinating to be along for the ride.
I like to try to get the kids outside for some classes when it warms up enough to do so... we are all so tired of being cooped up. The fresh air is great for thinking-- and there is SO much math to be found all around! My students are always amazed that I can make a walk around the school into math instruction.
How about in your world... now that "Spring has Sprung"... what does that do for your students... and for you?
