If you are in the Washington DC area today, consider going down to the Capitol to show support for health care reform. Yesterday, the Tea Party came into town.
One of my friends just emailed me a short message:
While Congressional offices continue to get hundreds of calls in support of reform, yesterday, as some of you may have seen, there were hundreds of people at the Capitol protesting against health care reform... If you support the legislation and feel so moved today, I think it would be a wonderful witness if you wanted to make a sign and come down to the Capitol to make your voice heard in support of reform. I know that seeing physical people there in support would buoy some spirits and send an important message in the media as well. And it promises to be such a beautiful day for it!
I stumbled upon the protest yesterday and it was crazy. (My out-of-town friends thought it was the anti-war protest.) There I saw a sign carried by a lady in fatigues that read: "I didn't fight so that dictators could rule." I wanted to point out that Obama is not a dictator, because there was an election, but I didn't. Common sense logic doesn't always work.
I can't go down to the Capitol today, because I will board a plane to New Orleans in a couple hours for work. But if you can go, please do and you can also go to the immigration march while you are down there.
Please go for my friend Regina Holiday who lost her husband last summer. Please go for our neighbors who are uninsured! Please go to show a strong pro-reform voice!
If you can't, call your Representative to voice your support! Find contact information here.
