Is anyone tired of kicking attention deprived and mysoginists Bart Stupak and Joe Pitts around yet? Not me! Help throw them an anchor!
This morning I woke up STILL angry. They failed, but there is no doubt in my mind that Stupak and Pitts will be back again to try to legislate what women can and cannot do with their own bodies.
Lucky for us there are two great women running against them: Connie Saltonstall (MI-01) and Lois Herr (PA-16).
So I set out to see what they were saying today and found a press release on Connie Saltonstall's facebook page which said in part:
Said Saltonstall, "First, let me say ‘thank-you’ to Congressman Stupak for his vote on this historic reform bill.

However, Representative Stupak’s support has come at a very high cost. Mr. Stupak’s dogmatic insistence on inserting his own religious views into the legislative debate and threatening to deprive his constituents of needed healthcare reform has eroded people’s trust in him. Throughout this debate there is the sense that our Congressman has let us down. It appears he has been more interested in promoting his own personal agenda than in representing the people of Michigan’s First District.
Hell hath no fury like a nation of women scorned.
It is imperative that women throw Congressmen Stupak and Pitts out of Congress. If not, it will give them and others like them the incentive to use women's rights as a bargaining chip whenever they like, thus further hijacking future debates and placing women's rights on the chopping block of the sausage making legislative machine. The whittling down of Roe V. Wade is unacceptable, and it is even more unacceptable when it is done by members of a Democratic party that pledges to protect women's reproductive rights as a centerpiece of their platform.
Similarly, there is Representative Joe Pitts (R-PA16), Bart Stupak's partner in crime. On Lois Herr's website I found this:
But, this is only the beginning of reforming our health care system nationwide. Unlike our current Representative to Congress, Joe Pitts, I will not obstruct progress, I will embrace it and I will work hard to bring health insurance relief to working families, seniors and small businesses of the 16th Congressional District.
Stupak has taken the brunt of the wrath and fury of women, but make no mistake, this is just as much Joe Pitts' doing as it was Stupak's. That is why it is so important that we back Lois Herr, the Democratic challenger to Pitts' seat in PA-16. By supporting these two women and others like them we will send a strong message to anti-choice members of Congress, and that message is if you bargain with women's rights you are bargaining with your political careers.
Woman Personhood is more important than Corporate Personhood. It is unacceptable for anyone, let alone men, to try to control the decision making powers of over one hundred million women. If they try to, sisters MUST FIGHT BACK.
And that fight has begun.
NOW (The National Organization of Women) has already endorsed both Connie Saltonstall's and Lois Herr's candidacy for Congress. Across America millions of women are fed up with having their civil rights and their reproductive rights used as a bargaining chip.
The healthcare debate should never have been sidetracked into an abortion debate.
from Connie Saltonstall's press release
Abortion is a human right. Women are sentient beings who MUST be given the right at all times to control their own bodies and destiny, otherwise women are mere property for men in power or others to decide for. You shouldn't be choosing our dinner, let alone our futures.
So help me today in supporting Connie Saltonstall and Lois Herr. A nation of women fighting back can not be ignored OR stopped. Fight on, sisters! The power is yours, now use it.
Connie can be found on actblue here and Lois can be found here. Please, help these two incredible women go to DC to fight for US not against us like their opponents.
Additionally, Connie can be found on Facebook and on Twitter and her website.
Lois can be found on Facebook, Twitter and her website.
Disclaimer: I have been working with both campaigns on a thus far purely volunteer basis and I consider Lois to be one of my political mentors but this diary idea was MINE. When I blog for any candidate it is always of my own free will with no rewards for other than the knowledge that I didn't just sit back and let things pass me by but I spoke up for what I believe in.
