Just breaking on Countdown.
Will update as I get more.
Lawrence O'Donnell is updating.
The republicans tried to bring a "Point of order" saying the "Cadillac tax" involved social security. If their tactic had succeeded, then the bill would need 60 votes to pass.
Senate GOP and DEM staffers both met with the Parliamentarian this afternoon at the same time. The Parliamentarian remained neutral the entire time. Just nodded as each side made their case.
That was until a DEM staffer came prepared with a precedent benefiting the DEMS from 1995. He cited it, and then the Parliamentarian finally spoke. And asked the republicans what was their response.
You ask what what the GOP response.
CRICKETS.
Evidently they didn't know about the 1995 precedent. :D
The Parliamentarian told them they had till the end of the day to come up with a response.
It wasn't a good one.
The Parliamentarian issues his ruling today, ahead of time.
Lawrence O'Donnell says
If this was the best that republican had by point of order challenges on the senate floor, then they don't have much.
God, I love being a democrat.
They walked in just as prepared as they were on yesterday.
This is totally editorial, but you can't tell me that doesn't have President Obama written all over it. "Precedent." It really does take an attorney to really appreciate "precedent". He kept telling us he has a "wonderful library in the White House". Just my two cents. :D
I just couldn't resist :D
