The Republican Congressional child-men were back in action on Sunday night. Like a schoolyard bully calling names, these poor schmucks simply cannot keep themselves from lying about their lying and the lies that they have made up and continue to spread about anything and everything that Democrats try to do to stop the spread of the insanity the Bush administration heaped upon America in order to return this country to the people instead of the corporations.
Conservative David Frum made a point this weekend in an opinion piece entitled "Waterloo." I think it may be time for the rabid right to begin to understand what they have become, and why. Right wing television and radio have made them what they are today and they can't seem to get off this train...
David Frum on Right Wing media and why Republicans in Congress cannot lead:
Yes it mobilizes supporters – but by mobilizing them with hysterical accusations and pseudo-information, overheated talk has made it impossible for representatives to represent and elected leaders to lead. The real leaders are on TV and radio, and they have very different imperatives from people in government.
You see, as Frum alluded to in his article, the leaders on TV and radio want one thing. They want their watchers and listeners whipped into a frenzy so they will keep watching and listening to their commercials about buying gold or any other of their snake oil sales pitches. It's about money, pure and simple. They DON'T WANT the Democrats to lose as much as they want to keep their listeners foaming at the mouths and tuning in! They know they are in the minority and they stand to lose most of the time. Perfectly fine to them.
Now, back to the Republicans in Congress. They are unable to lead and they are frustrated and bitter little people. So, again in Congress we get a Republican Representative yelling out something stupid and flatly a lie. I am not here to defend Bart Stupak by any means. He is a jerk of the highest order in my book. Still, when Representative Randy Neugebauer of Texas yelled out to Stupak "Baby Killer" as Stupak was finishing his speech on the House floor Sunday night during the historical vote for Health Care reform, he played once again into the hands of right wing radio and television. Instead of leading, he is following the cretins down the path to extinction. Only he doesn't seem to realize that Limpbaugh and Beck aren't going anywhere, and he might very well be.
Abortion foe from Texas says he regrets outburst
Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Tex.) acknowledged Monday that he is the lawmaker who yelled "Baby killer!" as a Democrat and fellow opponent of abortion explained why he would support health-care legislation. Neugebauer stood by his attack on the bill, saying he was representing the people of his district.
Ending a 15-hour mystery regarding who shouted the remark, the three-term representative from the vast counties of northwest Texas said he has apologized to Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who was speaking at the time. He said the debate brought out too much passion in his disagreement with the deal Stupak reached with President Obama and congressional leaders over abortion provisions in the legislation.
"In the heat and emotion of the debate, I exclaimed the phrase 'it's a baby killer' in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership. While I remain heartbroken over the passage of this bill and the tragic consequences it will have for the unborn, I deeply regret that my actions were mistakenly interpreted as a direct reference to Congressman Stupak himself," Neugebauer said in a statement.
Stupak questioned that. "I certainly took it as a personal attack on me," he said in a Fox News interview Monday. He lamented the "uncivilized behavior" during speeches that has surfaced in the past year.
Yes, even while supposedly apologizing for his insanely stupid outburst Rep. Neugebauer (R-TX) could not stop himself from lying about what he said. The words "it's a" were not uttered. Not to mention, the bill clearly states that there is to be no federally funded abortion. Another lie, Rep Neugebauer? Sure, it's just another day in Republican land.
If these non-leaders don't wise up and start thinking for themselves, those days in Republican land just may be numbered.
