...as long as we know they deserve it.
I'm grim. Again - we had to go through the Stupak bullshit all about abortion. Although Stupak got off his grandstand once everyone knows who he is now (another guy who's hair is creepily similar to Ralph Reed, Tom Delay, Rod Blogojovich, and Rick Perry), and yet the bill was about the 30 million who have already left the womb, and how to keep them out of the grave.
Why is "life" such a fungible term?
Here's where I get in trouble with the Christians.
I'll dig the rest of my hole in the body of the diary.
All the energy spent in apoplectic rage over abortion, or it's funding, under the fanatical rubric of those who claim they care about "life". If a baby/fetus/embryo is "killed" somehow "G"od is angry - but many Christians (Republicans who call themselves ones, anyway) sleep peacefully when an adult dies as long as they can be comfortably smug in pointing the finger at the dead person by blaming them for not working hard enough to have saved themselves.*
* a little diversion here: There are two hospitals in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Well, there used to be - St. Joseph's Hospital, and Hazleton General Hospital. St. Joseph's closed a few years ago and is now growing over with vines and graffitti. But it's a beautiful building, built in 1938. I drove by about a month ago and took pictures of the granite cornerstones and the facade over the main entrance.
There it is, carved in stone just as if it were a commandment, are the words
"The Charity of Christ Conquers All"
Did you get the joke yet?
The Charity of Christ did not conquer the bottom line of capitalism. The hospital went bankrupt.
When I tried to reach Christ Jesus for comment, I couldn't hear one. But that's me, I'm the nasty and evil atheist.
But if you have the courage to really distill the Health Care debate, that's what it's really all about: Knowing who deserves to die and who is worthy of saving, not actually making sure everyone lives. This is Why anti-abortion wingnuts make my teeth grind, even before I noticed that Stupak's hair is simply another plastic doll replica of Ralph Reed's hair, or Tom Delay's hair, or Rick Perry's hair.
Save the babies. Always save the babies. But if an adult drops dead, it's his own damn fault and they're OK with that.
I'm glad Stupak came around, but it's still Republican party platform boilerplate.
IMHO, If there is a Jesus and a Judgment, the ones who were apoplectic in recent weeks will have their name in lights on the marquis of their own wing in Hell for the duplicity.
They don't care about life. They never have.
They care about blame .
That's not quite as noble a calling as what I've been told Jesus was talking about.
snafubar out.
