On Sunday I was amazed to hear a Republican take an entirely rational tack to the whole Healthcare debate. Anyone within the Republican party that has uttered rational thoughts regarding the Republicans, Limbaugh, Beck, or the Tea Partiers has been forced to recant effectively shutting out all the moderates in the Republican party. It looks like Frum is now a victim of the extremism he denounced. Any wonder the craziness of the last few days has been minimized?
Here is the Washington Post article on the firing. Republican commentator David Frum loses job after criticizing GOP health-care strategy
Three days after calling health-care reform a debacle for the Republicans, David Frum was forced out of his job at the American Enterprise Institute on Wednesday.
The ouster also came one day after a harsh Wall Street Journal editorial about the former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, which said that he "now makes his living as the media's go-to basher of fellow Republicans" and accused him of "peddling bad revisionist history."
Although Frum said it had nothing to do with his article, is there really any doubt? I know many Republicans that are moderates. Friends and family members. They are mostly appalled by the Beck's, Palin's and Tea Partier's. My mother a lifelong Republican voted for Obama simply because she couldn't stand Palin. We may disagree on several ideological points but we can usually just agree to disagree. When are the moderate republicans going to get fed up and take back their party? Is it even possible anymore?
This is more about what happens when you allow the inmates take over the asylum. The best example of this is the New York House seat that went to Democrat Bill Owens. If not for the Tea Party and Sarah Palin this would have remained a safe seat for the Republicans. Do the Republicans care they are making themselves obsolete or do they think they will have a conservative revolution akin to 1994 and don't care about the consequences? I can tell you this that Democratic or Republican, most voters just care about what you have done for them lately. If the Republican's vote against finance reform, jobs, and healthcare what can they possibly show to their constituents other than their NO votes.
Why should we care? The move to the extreme right by the Republican party has incited such hatred and vitriolic stances that it is almost impossible to get anything done. Bottom line these Senators and Representatives are our employees they should be working for us not just for political power.
Update: I've changed the title and added some meat to this after being requested to delete because there is already a diary on the Rec list about David Frum "Resigning".
