What we do know is that when leaders on either side of the aisle go with this over-inflated rhetoric and they tell us it’s the end of the world, it’s Armageddon, the Marxists have taken over Washington, it’s the end of the world as we know it, we’re moving into socialism, when they say things like that, well that maybe some of them don’t believe, and then the fringes believe it, and then they go out and do stupid things, well, I mean, it’s all kind of tied together isn’t it?

Ok, so at first he kind of adds the caveat  of "both sides" (which is clearly correct, inciting violence is bad by either side), but then look at every one of his examples. "End of the world", "Armageddon", "Marxist", "socialism". Each one is from a Glenn Beckistan.   I especially love the way at the end he kind of offhand says, "It's all kind of tied together isn't?" just to leave folks with, "I'm not sayin', I'm 'just sayin'" kind of moment to think about.

It is weird the way Shep Smith is almost becoming a sort of folk hero on DKos.  Some folks argue of course that he is merely cover to allow FOX to claim "balance".  And I suppose that may be FOX's motive, but Shep is not FOX and Shep deserves recognition for saying what is right.  While he certainly isn't a progressive, he does clearly represent a middle ground that can clearly see what the right wing is doing here. Party of No. Party of Whiners. Party of violent wingnut enablers.

This comes on the heels of Shep's dismantling of Michael Steele:

Shep, after Steele calls for America to help "fire Nancy Pelosi"

I want to know how people are supposed to help you fire Nancy Pelosi. And specifically, would it be the people who had a pre-exisitng condition and couldn’t get insurance but after the President signs it tomorrow can, would it be the child who had a disease but couldn’t get treated because they didn’t have any money, who would be able to be treated for that tomorrow, or who would it be who would want to be firing Nancy Pelosi?

Then Shep turned to rhetoric. He fired these questions while Steele tried to answer each: "Is this Armageddon, Mr. Chairman? Mr. Chairman, Armageddon? Seriously? Armageddon, Mr. Chairman, would you like a definition?"

Shep is on FIRE!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
