Today's date is significant for candidates running for political office because it is the end of the reporting period. Often, it is a show of strength for a candidate. For Democratic United States Senate candidate, Alexi Giannoulias, it is everything.

Let us make clear what this election in November of 2010 is all about: the Obama Administration agenda. Which candidate for United States Senate will advance the Obama Administration agenda?
Well, Congressman Mark Kirk once again showed his true colors by voting down health care reform. Mark Kirk voted consistently with his party, the party of "No." The party of "No" ideas, "No" plans, "No" improvements. And as Curly of the Three Stooges would have said, "No nothing." Mark Kirk is a "No nothing," or if you will, "Know nothing" Congressman who is asking us to promote him to the United States Senate, so he can advance his party's agenda of "No nothing."
Wasn't it enough he voted for the Bush W. agenda for so many years and is unapologetic for that vote. That is why we are obligated, as liberals and progressives, to support our friend and comrade against the "No nothings." The person I support and am asking you to support with not just your vote, but with your money, your time, your energy, your passion. Alexi Giannoulias.
Alexi also enjoys support from influential elected officials, such as State Senator James Meeks, a big supporter of Giannoulias. Reverend Meeks is the pastor of Salem Baptist Churchthat has a congregation of over 24,000. A real "grassroots" church.

The campaign in November is quite simple. Mark Kirk is not our friend. Alexi Giannoulias is our friend. Mark Kirk will fight for the special interests. Alexi Giannoulias will fight for you.
We not only should vote for our friend, Alexi Giannoulias, but we should, if possible, volunteer for his campaign against big-money and special interests. We should actively campaign for our friend. And we should absolutely donate money to our friend because Mark Kirk has lined his pockets with money from these special interests and will vote in their favor every time as evidenced by his commitment to defeat the health care bill.
The Alexi Giannoulias campaign needs your vote, your time, your energy, and above all, your money. So please help our friend overcome the obstacles in his way.
And what is my role in the campaign? I am an unpaid volunteer for Alexi Giannoulias. I plan on making phone calls on behalf of Alexi, knocking on doors, planting yard signs, writing and advocating on his behalf.
I have watched Alexi grow as a politician during these years and more importantly, I have watched him grow into a generous, caring, and passionate human being. He cares deeply about the plight of the poor and down-trodden. And I will point out, he is a true progressive.
And what I truly love about him is his fighting spirit. He is a fighter and I want him in my corner every time. And he will answer all the questions about the bank. Just ask him.
But I will tell you that these questions are raised by his political enemies who view it as an opportunity to bring him down and divert attention away from the real issues facing this nation. Republicans would rather discuss these things, because they have nothing to discuss when it comes to the burning issues. After all, the Republicans have decide to become the "Party of No." But as I told you, he is a born fighter and won't go down. And it is in that spirit he will fight for you too.
