We live across the street from a Chevron refinery. It is a huge facility that covers as much space as the town itself. When we bought the building, we had to have an environmental evaluation of our surrounding neighbors, and Chevron was one of them. It was appalling how many millions of gallons of fuel and chemicals Chevron has dumped on the grounds. It gave us pause at first but it wasn't until about 5 years later that we started noticing that something strange was happening to our cats. They were growing and they were getting HUGE!

Here is a picture of the refinery taken from our bedroom window. There was a "small" fire about 5 years ago and it was a little scary. See how close they are?

It was not that long after this fire that we started to notice that our pooties were getting bigger. At first we thought they were just getting fat.

But then then kept growing and they were getting larger. I took them to the vet and the doctor couldn't explain it. Everyone was healthy, they were just getting bigger, much bigger.

They were becoming so large, we had trouble picking them up. We were freaking out!

I was convinced that Chevron was doing something that was causing this to happen. I went to see the mayor and the town council but no one would give me the time of day. I tried to get a lawyer but no one would take my case. Clearly something was wrong but no one would help me. One of the pooties even turned mean and started attacking people and still no one would admit there was anything strange going on here.

Finally, we were forced to accept that this was a problem that we were going to have to live with. We loved the Rooter and he loved us and we were so happy together that we decided it didn't matter why he had gotten so big.

After the Rooter died, we weren't sure if we would get any more pooties but the Rooter had left a very, very large hole in our lives. We were so lonely without him that we decided we would have to take a chance. We got Stanley, a sweet, brown tabby boy. And then we found Peeps, a funny faced, little clown.

Everything was fine for a while but then they began to grow larger too.

We think Stanley is going to get even larger than the Rooter. He was a big boy before he started to grow but now he's so big, we had to get him his own bed.

Peeps was the runt of the litter and was small and delicate when we first got her. She has started to grow too but we think she won't get as big as Stanley.

We also have a step-pootie. Ricky and Lucy, a sweet couple who work for us, got a kitten back in November. Nicky comes to work 3 days a week and even he has started to grow.

We have decided there isn't any point in making a big deal over this. No one will listen to us anyway. We love our pooties and we don't care how big they are or how much they eat. There is just more of them to love, a lot more.

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that we have turtles, red earred sliders. One of them grew so large we had to put a pool in the back of the building. We give turtle rides on Saturday afternoons. Come on by sometime, if you're in the neighborhood.

Please don't forget to click on the buttons below. There are many hungry pooties and woozles who need fud even if it is April Fool's Day.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
