I was watching an oldish video (February) in which Rachel Maddow is talking about Tom Tancredo suggesting the resurrection of literacy test for vote registration. Which, of course, is aimed at the "Obama-voters" who couldn't possibly comprehend what they've done by voting for an undocumented, black marx/comm/socialist.
After a wonderful video of Lyndon Johnson trying to strike down this very idea, she speaks to Charles Ogletree (the director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice) and he's great! Maybe he dips a little into talking points land but his racial perspective is good. But here comes the crux to me; an afterthought the end of this poorly edited youtube clip. Ogletree's on a roll talking about the voice of all american's and he says maybe something we should test is political-sportsmanship an understanding of the ground rules. I don't have a huge problem with that, but here comes the better proposal: "You think we could have a civics test for pundits, and paid political speakers?"
....
hhhhHell ya
Write it up, I'm sure you'll do fine, Rachel.
I want to see you challenge the titans on this. I dare Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reily to prove they actually know wtf they're talking about. Ogletree's point was right, they haven't gotten over this election. I'm tired of watching the media tend to the sore loser. Glen Beck doesn't know his shit, and it's cause he doesn't have to. Call him out, show the country that they have no reason to believe his theories.
I'm calling for a contest, and every pundit and political speaker should have an at bat, and then maybe we can take it to congress.
Here's the vid
