Yesterday, I wrote a diary about my friend Vivian, who is participating in the Chicago Avon Walk for Breast Cancer at the beginning of June. She needs to raise $1800 before then or pay the sum out of pocket.
Thanks to her friends, family, and the generosity of some DailyKos residents yesterday, she's managed to get about $500 or so (I haven't gotten a fully updated total from her). Still $1300 to go.
As I wrote in the other diary, this is a worthy cause that has raised millions and millions of dollars, and it's definitely needed. In 2009, there were nearly 200,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer. And over 40,000 deaths.
The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is a worthy cause, and even donations of $5 can make all the difference. We've seen what small donors can do as far as fundraising for political candidates goes; this is a cause that almost certainly affects you or someone you know.
I'm asking for anyone who is able to visit Vivian's donation page and help her get to her goal.
She wanted me to pass on her sincere gratitude to everyone who donated yesterday, as do I. She's not there yet, and she's working on raising the money herself as well, but as I said yesterday, her time is extremely limited with two jobs plus school. She's got a small network of friends helping to raise some money, so here I am.
Thanks again, and even if you can't donate or don't want to, read up on the Avon Walks. Maybe you'll decide to volunteer, or maybe reading about the people involved will change you mind.
