Well, no he wasn't actually a Democrat, but if he were alive today he sure wouldn't be associating with the people who've taken over his party. There are times I feel like screaming when I hear rank and file Republicans sweep ever racist thing their party leaders do under the blanket of, "Well we're the party that freed the slaves."
Governonr McDonnell of Virginia is only the latest in a long line of GOP lapdogs who are either too stupid or too afraid to stand up to the Confederacy Cheerleaders. I can't remember the last time any Republican stood up to this revisionist history movement and said "NO" when they asked for some special observation of the Confederacy's role in American History.
Personally, I'd like to see a Northern state like Vermont declare, "Union History Month," and have it dwell upon all the evil and suffering brought on by the Southern States, and then sit back and listen to the howls of protest erupting from down south. Maybe it'd be enough to push Governor Rick Perry into trying to secede from the Union -- and get his ass put into a Federal Prison for Treason. It would also be fun to watch GOP Chairman Michael Steel's head explode.
