that's his choice. I may not agree with it, but then I have a different style. Of course, my style didn't win me the presidency of the United States, so you decide which one you think is most effective.
With regards to the Palin (I am soooo tempted to refer to her in ways that would betray my contempt for the woman, but I won't), I do have to wonder why on Earth President Obama decided to respond to her ludicrous charge that he was inviting terrorists to "punch him in the face" with the diplomatic and high-minded
"If the secretary of Defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin."
Knowing how craven she is, no one should be surprised by her response mocking Obama's "vast nuclear experience that he acquired as a community organizer."
I think there is a simpler, more direct way to smack the shit out of her without compromising your dignity.
This ain't brain surgery. We're talking low hanging fruit here. When Jon Stewart can develop an entire segment skewering your idiocy, and it is sitting on the front page of a blog like Daily Kos, metaphorically speaking ... your ass is hanging out in the breeze for all to see. Painting a target on it is just asking for trouble.
We have seen what happens when you give the likes of Grassley, Palin, Sessions, Bachmann, Steele and Boehner an opportunity to behave properly. They waste it. These are not serious opponents, they are disruptive elements in the body politic. They are no more serious than the knuckleheads who sit in the back of the class huffing White Out and listening to their iPods. As a former teacher, Obama knows that any teacher who allowed those sad sacks to take over the classroom deserved to be punched in the face if that is the only way they can learn they are in the wrong line of work.
I don't think Obama is in the wrong line of work, but I am beginning to question his classroom management skills. He was outstanding when he schooled the Republican congressional representatives. He needs to be that good every day. That's a high standard, but he knew that when he applied for the job. Dealing with anklebiters sometimes requires a swift smackdown... so the others know what to expect. For example:
It's clear Sarah Palin doesn't read very much. If she does, she clearly doesn't understand what she is reading.
Then you educate the mass media on why she is talking out her ass. In simple language. No platitudes. Simple declarative sentences will be fine.
The US reserves the right to adjust this policy.
Deliver it with a low tone of voice, a deadpan face, and an icy glare. End of story.
As an old professor of mine used to say before he brought the hammer down:
A word to the wise is more than sufficient. A cudgel for the obtuse works, too.
