Its Sunday and reading through various newspapers and blogs this came to mind
I should not have to fear when I say:
I'm a Lesbian.
I'm a feminist.
I'm a democratic socialist/progressive.
I'm an atheist and a Buddhist.
That I believe in equality with no exceptions.
I'm a pacifist.
If I have fear when expressing any of the above, then I know I am not in a civilised country. I believe in the fundamental right for everyone to be able to express themselves clearly and calmly, without being ridiculed or persecuted for their beliefs, or who they are.
This is why I find the right repulsive wherever they reside, be it the United States, or France.
The right wing has always been excellent at demonizing and ostracising those not of the same lock-step mentality. Resorting to nationalism/patriotism to justify and obscure their own fears and petty mindedness.
I have always thought the right wing to be the most fearful of us all, base instincts that drive racism, sexism and nationalism. Fear of anyone different drives their beliefs, and makes them dream of locking themselves away in some gated right wing Nirvana. Personally I think they would only find something else to whine about, next doors cat is not a dog type of thing.
Couple fear with a divine right and you really have a powder-keg, and have lit the fuse. It's all well and good throwing your hands in the air and saying, but, but, we didn't mean it that way. Nobody with any sense at all believes you.
Saying you want to govern, but hate government, is yet another oxymoron. The result could be that you now have a society that is ungovernable. Theoretically anarchy might be viable, well, if you are in a room by yourself perhaps, otherwise its just tosh.
Saying that gays will be the end of civilisation, just goes to prove how fragile your world really is, be honest, you're just bigoted. Quite frankly, queers scare you.
My advice:
Stop worrying what others do with their lives.
Stop being scared of what you don't know, or understand.
Stop thinking only of yourselves.
You'll be a whole lot happier.
PS
Yes I do have some fears, but I'm working on them...
