After watching countless hours of news coverage on the Tea Party Movement, I was fully prepared for absolute craziness at the DC Tea Party Protest by the Washington Monument yesterday (tax day). I'm only one man with a camera and certainly didn't speak to everyone - but almost everyone was respectful and pretty easy to talk to.
There seems to be an overwhelming feeling of "Government is too big and bad" -yet after that initial statement, I would hear things like, "I'm not saying no government" or "Maybe we should hire some more border guards" and "I'm in favor of "good" regulation of private industry.". I'm one liberal schmuck with a camera and can still find common ground with people who are carrying around "Obama is taking our Freedom" signs, because once you get past the ridiculous rhetoric - most people are wiling to lend an ear and have a civilized discussion.
