Felipe Calderon became the president of Mexico in a highly controversial election in 2006. Sonn after his election he began an aggressive military campaign against the drug cartels. So far the death toll is about 23,000 for three years. Our government in Mexico says that 90% of the dead are criminals.
If you take them at their word, almost 3,000 who died were civilians.
I don't believe them.
I think the civilian count is much higher. Meanwhile, the current US administration seems to be following the same path as the previous one and it isn't working very well.
I don't think the Obama administration is doing a good job with the Mexican drug wars or with most of Latin America.
I know it's Friday so I thought I would throw up this non diary in case anyone has any comments. Not pushing a pootie diary off the wreck list.
I am concerned about Mexico since I live in Mexico, but also for America.
I really want a saner policy, not the military.
