A large number of countries have announced their leaders won't attend tomorrow's funeral for President Lech Kaczynski due to the volcanic ash cloud over Europe.
Earlier today, President Obama said he's staying home.
President Barack Obama scrapped plans to travel to Poland on Saturday for the funeral of Poland's president because of hazardous flying conditions caused by the volcanic ash cloud over Europe.
Obama said the U.S. ambassador to Poland, Lee Feinstein, would represent the United States at the service Sunday in Krakow for Lech Kaczynski.
This came six hours before Air Force One was due to take off. Canada, Japan, South Korea and India have also announced their leaders aren't attending either due to the ash.
To my mind, it seems very unlikely the Secret Service would have signed off on letting Obama go to Poland even if he'd wanted to go. From what I've heard about the things volcanic ash can do to planes, we could have had yet another disaster on our hands if he'd gone.
