I admit it, I'm sick of the Senate being the obstacle to getting anything progressive done.
I'm not the only one.
Lately it seems like every time I talk to a member of the House of Representatives, I get to hear a rant about how the Senate is the problem.
Dealing with climate change? Not the Senate!
Dealing with banking reform? Not the Senate!
Dealing with immigration? Not the Senate!
Want a public option? Not the Senate!
Enough.
It's time to fix the Senate and end the filibuster.
But don't take my word for it. Here's what Congressman Barney Frank said when he was asked what needed to happen to make progressive legislation possible:
I'm working with our partners at CREDO and Blue America to put together a fellowship that will allow David Waldman (known hereabouts as KagroX) to focus on filibuster reform. I need your help.
Please sign the petition in support of filibuster reform.
For every signature, we get closer to having the funding for KagroX. (Thank you CREDO, who is funding this based on their commitment to fixing the problem. Good folks they are.)
We can do all of the progressive organizing we want, win majorities in the House and the Senate, win the White House, and still lose the battle to take our country in the right direction if a small minority in the Senate gets veto power over the needs of the American people.
So, if you'd be so kind: please sign the petition.
Obligatory FAQ: "Won't this hurt Democrats later, when we want to use the filibuster to stop things?" Answer: "No - because the Republicans are going to nuke the filibuster as soon as they have control. At this point, it's only hindering us."
(PS - If you want to contribute directly to help fund KagroX's fellowship, you can do so here.)
