Fox News host and right-wing whackjob Glenn "Lonesome Rhoades" (thank you, Olbermann) Beck is calling the Library of Congress "un-American" for wishing to archive all public tweets.
A few days ago, Beck did a segment where he tried to prove that the First Amendment is under attack by liberals and progressives (which it isn’t). He was trying to make a (misguided) point where he claimed liberals were hypocrites for opposing the Patriot Act and warrantless wiretapping from the Bush administration while having the Library of Congress tweet the following:
"Library to acquire ENTIRE Twitter archive – ALL public tweets, ever, since March 2006!"
Trying to compare wiretapping to archiving tweets is laughable, but Beck persisted that doing so infringes on privacy rights:
"I don’t think I trust them...I don’t think I want them cataloging, or checking...I just don’t want it. Something inside of me says ‘un-American’. Dangerous."
Note how the Library of Congress wishes to archive public tweets, how doing so is "un-American" is completely and utterly ridiculous.
With his current ratings dip, thanks in part to his disastrous interview with Eric Massa, I bet Beck is getting pretty desperate to bring back the ‘I want my country back because democrats and a black guy have taken it away from me.........somehow’ crowd that made his show a success. But I don’t think even that loony faction of the right-wing will fall for the ‘cataloging tweets is a progressive/Marxist/communist/socialist/fascist plot’ schtick. Then again, most of those people want Sarah Palin running the country, so, you never know!
