We were strolling through an antiques and collectibles place today in eastern Pennsylvania. It's fun to look for this and that at these emporia of the cast-off and forgotten, the repository of the attic treasures and garage stuff they didn't want but that you may not be able to live without.
Today it was a search for mason jars to convert into lamps and a letter opener.
Then as we were checking out and awaiting our items as they were being wrapped, I saw this:
More after the jump....
I took a closer look, because the stack of bumper stickers were on a vertical display. Handwritten on the display were the words, "To make them think," or something similar.
I turned to the cashier and her boss standing a few feet away, and said, "This is offensive! This is really offensive!" They acted as if they didn't hear. And my husband and I walked out. I may never shop there again.
Add to this the fact that this morning in the local gym a guy we know to nod to for a few years ran on his treadmill watching Fox News Nutwork. Geez! Reminds me that even though the county (Monroe) and the state supported President Obama in the 2008 election, this is still a place with a lot of residual red state mentality. As James Carville reportedly said, Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between.
The Wingnut-Crazy Right is getting scary. They seem to be nearly everywhere. The hate is the most upsetting thing. Watch Bill Maher's show last night to hear some truths told by Chris Matthews as to why the right is so exercised these days: hate of President Obama.
Just had to vent a bit. Thanks.
