I was reading blackwaterdog's recommended diary when i saw a picture of President Obama and Louisiana Governor Jindal together. They seemed to be working together fairly well. And a thought struck me, this is why i voted for both of these men. Join me below the fold and i'll attempt to expain my reasons behind my vote...
There so many different reasons to vote for a politician; their economic policy, their stance on the wars we are involved in, their position on immigration. I chose to vote for President Obama and Governor Jindal based on how i thought the might act in the face of crisis that presented itself to Louisiana.
My experience from living through and watching the aftermath of Katrina unfold certainly left me with a sour taste for government. We REALLY didn't like the response of any level of government down here after the storm. Government and Trust were not words you would use in the same sentence. At the time i had not voted in years. I think Clinton was the last president i voted for(the first time around). I began to realize after the storm that voting might actually matter. I registered as an independent.
The first big election i voted for was the Governor's race. Honestly, my first impulse was to vote for the party that wasn't in charge during Katrina at all levels. But my grandparents had taught me to take a look at what both sides had to say. I remember staying with them during the summertime when i was a kid and watching both the democratic and republican conventions. So i looked at both candidates. In the end i chose Bobby Jindal. He seemed like a young intelligent guy that could handle a crisis. I don't agree with everything he's done since he has been in office(especially this law that could cost our state money and my vote), but i am happy with how he handled Gustav and the current crisis.
I had been lurking here for a while when the campaign for 2008 happened. I've always been fascinated with politics. And this sight always presented itself as having pretty intelligent insights to what went on in politics(as well as many other topics, and hey, who doesn't like pie!). As i read and watched President Obama's campaign i certainly got the feeling that this guy was really intelligent and if he ran the government as well as he ran his campaign we just might be all right. He has not disappointed. I think the one image that impressed me the most about today was President Obama visiting our state, visiting our people, and standing outside in the 'drizzle'(downpour!) stating he would do "everything in our power" to help us out. We didn't get that so much with the last president.
I have to say, it is wonderful to see people from different political parties working together to solve a crisis that effects so many people down here.
