Well, I have been a lurker for years and a lurking member for a couple more and this has finally pushed me to write my first diary. I am at a loss regarding the lack of coverage the largest man-made environmental disaster on our shores is receiving. I have read all the oil gusher diaries here as well as going over the web editions of the Louisiana newspapers to try and understand what is really going on on the ground so to speak, because the MSM, IMO, has been terrible in this regard.
I am utterly confused on who is in charge of this disaster, what the chain of command is and how are things getting organized and implemented. Is it BP with Coast Guard guidance, or Coast Guard controlled with BP guidence, who is actually calling the shots and saying yea and nay and is anyone pushing, prodding, threatening for real results, or are we just letting the worst of worst happen?
Why is our government seemingly letting BP run the show? IMO, that is the way the MSM is portraying it, and is that what the government wants it to look like, or is there a lot more going on behind the scenes, and if so, why not let us in on it? Too many questions, not enough answers and not enough real knowledge of the catastrophic outcome to this disaster.
So the last part of this screed is a call to action, adding onto what Fishgrease, Slinkerwink and others have been writing about: it is time to barage the media with real stories of what is happening in Louisiana and Missisippi, photos, interviews and video footage of the oncoming utter devastation. It is already happening in bits and pieces, but i believe there needs to be an organized, concentrated effort to clog all forms of media with the REAL STORY. One little example of the real story is within all the local commentary on the web versions of the Louisiana newspapers and local environmental groups; a woman who is a local disaster co-ordinator was asking for donations to buy life preservers for volunteers because BP was unwilling to purchase them. These and so many other stories have to come to light so pressure comes to bear on BP and our government, and the only way that is going to happen is by the multitude of voices from every corner of this country.
How can DKos co-ordinate such a knowlede dissemination project? Thanks for reading.
