I know that the primaries aren’t over and the final results might be different, but I think liberal and progressive Democrats scored big in the latest elections. And I’m happy.
Based on this NY Times story: Specter Defeat Signals a Wave Against Incumbents, I have the following opinions, which are under the fold.
- Kentucky (Bunning’s Senate Seat): I know that KY is a red state, but Rand Paul? Are you fucking serious? He’s a crazy guy like Bunning, but at least Bunning is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Bunning is an asshole, but he was a good pitcher in the old days. Plus, I think Bunning says crazy things because of dementia in his brain. The neurons aren't firing. Rand Paul is too young to be tetched in the head. He says crazy things because he’s just plain crazy. The best you can say about Rand is that he’s the son of Ron (another crazy guy who isn’t in a hall of fame, except in his own mind). In short, Rand Paul is an ideological tea-party lunatic. I don’t even remember who the Dem is, but I think there’s a chance that he (or she) can make Rand Paul look like a crazy man, because that’s exactly what he is.
- Pennsylvania (Arlan Specter’s seat). It looks like Sestak won the primary. PA is a fundamentally blue state and I’m hoping that we (Democrats) will organize for Sestak. And we’ll send a Democrat with relatively liberal principles to the Senate. Instead of a worn-out old man who used to be a Republican.
- Also, in the special election in PA, it looks like Murtha’s congressional seat will remain in the D column. Thanks, Pennsylvania voters! We owe you. Requiescat in Pace (RIP), Rep. Murtha. You believed in Democratic ideals. Good luck to you, Rep. Critz. Fight for what’s right.
- Arkansas. It looks like the blue dog Democrat, Blanche Lincoln, might have to face a runoff election. I’m cheering for Bill Halter. If Halter wins the runoff, that would be good. If Lincoln wins the runoff and then wins the election, that’s somewhat acceptable in a marginal way. She sometimes votes with us Democrats (and she’s OK for fighting with Main Street against Wall Street). If Halter wins the runoff, I’ll probably donate money or time to him. Arkansas is weird. They elected Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee. Who knows how they’ll vote? It’s a bipolar state. Like my cousin who’s a little bit crazy. Sometimes AR acts normal and sometimes AR does something that makes you say "WTF, are you nuts? Why would you do that? Why would you vote for Huckabee?"
