Now here is something in which we all can easily get involved. England has started a "Bee Part Of It" Campaign to encourage more beekeepers, and as part of the campaign, the National Trust is installing 45 beehives in some of the properties for which it is custodian.
The hives will be away from the public for safety reasons but close enough to be seen.
I'll bet there are thousands of rose gardens and horticultural centers across the US that could do the same thing.
What can make it fun is that BBC radio will be following the fortunes of the bees over the summer.
Perhaps it would be possible for radio stations in the US to do a similar thing and to sponsor the installation of a hive or two, and maybe you could get the local food stores to do the same.
