I truly have no other explanation for this. To catch you up in case you don't feel like clicking the link, President Obama has been criticizing BP over their actions leading up to and during the economic disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. BP, in case you didn't know, stands for British Petroleum. And now Rand Paul is saying that President Barack Obama attacking a foreign company for despoiling domestic waters is, somehow, un-American.
Just so we're clear, the accident in the Gulf is, at least in part, BP's fault. In order to solve a problem, one must determine who is at fault and what happened. The President's job, in part, is to solve problems like this. Yet President Obama is being un-American. There are only two possible explanations here. Either Rand Paul is certifiably insane, or he is the most brilliant comedian in the history of the art form. I'm hoping it's the second and that we're going to get a recording from his campaign explaining that this is the most audacious piece of performance art ever attempted. Sadly, I'm thinking it might not be the case.
You see, this is the same man who, on national television, said that private businesses should be allowed to discriminate. Who said that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is flawed because it infringes on private property rights. Who said that the ADA is onerous because it foists too much responsibility onto private business, and then proceeded to give an example where the ADA allows the very common-sense solution that he was proposing. And now we have the Republican candidate for the Senate from the Commonwealth of Kentucky saying it's un-American for the American president to attack a foreign company for destroying domestic waters and domestic industries, while also killing American citizens.
You know what? I don't think he's pulling an Andy Kaufman. I think he's possibly insane. And even if he's not, he's absolutely dangerous. And there's only one way that we can make certain that he doesn't bring his dangerous ideas and policies to the rest of the country. We need to support Jack Conway. Visit his website. Contribute to his campaign. It's the American thing to do.
P.S. I realize some of these topics have already been hit once before, but I think it's helpful to put all of them together to get a full scope of the crazy that Rand Paul is bringing.
