Scroll down for this week's project. On tap this week: Electricity!
Success! Project funded! See comments section below for a second project that needs rescuing.
Reminder: Look for "The Inoculation Project" every Friday afternoon!
The Inoculation Project: Math & Science in Red State Schools
Solid science education is the best inoculation against ignorance.
The objective of this weekly project is to combat the anti-science push in conservative America by providing direct funding each week to math and science projects in red state classrooms.
Fortunately, a conduit organization for achieving this direct funding already exists: DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org allows you to make direct contributions to specific classroom projects (all vetted), resulting in tremendous and immediate impacts from small dollar donations.
Each week we focus on funding a single small-dollar project in a red state classroom. These are projects whose funding requests are expiring within the next 7 days. If the projects are not funded by their expiration date, they die.

This Week's Project
(Normally, we have a project whose expiration is imminent, but it was a slim pickin's kind of week for small dollar projects, so the project below is one that still has a few weeks before it expires. Have at it!)
Project: Electricity Shock!
Resources: 6 electricity and magnetism kits to do fun labs
School Poverty Level: Moderate
State: Utah
Total Cost: $320.30
Still Needed: $60.15 FUNDED!
Expires: Jul 07, 2010
Teacher's Comments:
It is a shock what we do not have for the electricity unit in my 5th grade science classes. I am a 5th grade teacher, that teaches four rotations of science each week.
We do not have the supplies we need for this electricity unit. I love to do labs but do not have resources to do so.
We need electricity and magnetism resources and kits to do fun labs. The kits I have asked for will help my students better understand electricity and help me to help them do so. It will also make me feel that I am a better teacher of the subject.
You will make it possible for my students to really understand this unit of electricity and make it come alive for them. Not just something they learn about in a textbook.
Please consider rescuing this project by making a small donation to it. Small dollars make a big difference.

Good News
Last week's project, Hands on ESL Scientists, got rescued by some kind folks early this week. Thanks very much to the kind Kossacks who helped contribute to its success.
Here's a thank-you note from the teacher:
May 26, 2010
I am so thrilled to have this project funded. I want to share that I will be a science specialist for ESL and Bilingual students.
These materials will be used for multiple classrooms now. It will add inspiration and excitement to our science program.
One of my favorite quotes is "What we learn with pleasure, we never forget." Thanks so much for being a part of making learning fun and effective for our students.
With gratitude,
Mrs. R.
