Huffpost has an entry re the 10 best war movies. Pardon me while I digress!
I appreciate all your comments... however, my list is not complete, nor certainly definitive. They were the ones I remembered right now. Thanks for your suggestions, positive or otherwise.
Add: Again, thanks for all your comments. One thing that bothered me about writing this is that in using "Peace" in my title, I wanted to bring out movies that dealt with peace in a non-war context. I know, hard to do. But peace, for me, is about Family. Not just my family. But the web that encircles our world and connects all of us. Sentimental? Fine. But it is living within that web that we as humans need to grasp. War is the easy way out. Just like traveling to another planet to ease our own world; we still take our madness with us.
What movies do you remember that deal with that?
Not a long diary, just tired of the war s--t. I deliberately left Patton off because, as skilled as Patton was as a general, he only came alive in war, and that is a very very sad and terrible existence.
To Kill a Mockingbird
Diary of Anne Frank
The Killing Fields
All Quiet on the Western Front
Paths of Glory
The Best Years of Our Lives
Coming Home
The Deer Hunter
Grand Illusion
Inside Moves
We Were Soldiers
The Waterdance
The Stunt Man
The Enemy Below
(in that same vein) Star Trek: Balance of Terror
Add: The Duellists
These are not listed in 'value' order, just titles that affect me.
Your suggestions are awaited.
